Our organization continues to grow and support five villages in rural Haiti. We are so grateful for your ongoing enthusiasm and support for MIJABA — couldn’t do this without you! We are sincerely thankful for your dedication to our mission of promoting health, education, and the environment in rural Haiti — browse our website to learn more about our story and stay tuned for more updates on our work in 2025.

Our work continues to focus on several key initiatives:

K-8 school funding in Moreau
The 2025 – 2025 school year wrapped up in June in Haiti! Students attend school September – June each year. This past school year, the MIJABA school in Moreau taught hundreds of K-8 students in the three-room school building, the church, and other outdoor spaces to accommodate demand. Grade 9 students take national exams in July each year to become eligible for higher education opportunities – we also fundraise for teacher salaries in July and August to support their efforts and set students up for success.

Installing internet access for school and community use in Moreau
Exciting news – we have set up Starlink satellite internet in Moreau! This means that teachers and students at the MIJABA school can now connect to the internet on their mobile devices and laptops to significantly increase their access to information and resources. A generous donor made the initial purchase of the Starlink device possible, and we now fundraise monthly to cover internet subscription costs.

Sustainable gardening projects in Moreau
The farmers in Moreau continue to grow cassava and other food crops specifically for providing food for school lunches and selling to fundraise for other food items for the students.

Road improvements and school construction in Moka
Beyond our work in Moreau, we support other local villages with their infrastructure, health, and environment projects as much as possible. The community has directed spare funds and support from other organizations to improve the quality of mountain roads between Moreau and the remote mountain village of Moka. This has helped speed up construction progress on a new school building in Moka as well.

We would like to grow our impact during the upcoming school year with your support!

Student lunches for the 2025 – 2026 school year in Moreau
To ensure all students are successful every day, they need daily healthy meals at school. That’s why we would like to fundraise several thousand dollars each month to purchase food items like rice and oil for school staff to prepare lunches for K-8 students.

Additional teachers for the schools in Moreau and Moka
As one of the few schools in continuous operation in the region, there is high demand from far and wide for additional students to attend the MIJABA schools in Moreau and Moka. As the political situation in Haiti continues to struggle, many public and private schools cannot regularly hold classes or pay teachers – that’s why it is so critical for our organization to continue and grow our operations in the rural southeast region of Haiti.

Traveling nurses for all five villages (Moreau, Moka, Source Benoit, Bonhomme, and Klosier)
Beyond education and environmental initiatives, we would like your help growing our ability to provide consistent access to medical services across rural Haiti. In the past, the villages have relied on traveling nurses to visit and provide medical care for farming families, since they often are unable to travel to towns and cities with healthcare clinics.

Our work is possible solely due to the generosity of small donors – as the international aid community reacts to funding availability changes, we are grateful to continue our work autonomously. Thank you for supporting our work!
